Walmart double clicks on wealthier shoppers

Shoppers that make over $100K are turning to Walmart for groceries amid inflation. The retailer is making a bid to retain them by emphasizing a shopping experience that includes a revamped app, delivery options and a membership program. A growing assortment of products on the marketplace is another way to deliver value, executives said on the company’s earnings call this week.

A new feature being tested in the Shop app users allows users to “search for anything” across stores. While it is limited to a small group at this time, Marketplace Pulse contends that the addition of discovery makes Shop a full-blown marketplace, with the entire shopping journey now available in the app.  – Marketplace Pulse

A forward-looking measure of inflation is showing some signs of relief. The Producer Price Index, which measures the wholesale price of goods before they reach retail, has been running below peak levels for the last two months.  – Axios

Campbell’s Soup is harnessing data and analytics through a tool called Insights Engine, which tracks trends that can be applied toward the food giant’s operations and product development. It has a role in decisions about new soup products, as well as the evolution of snacks portfolio that grew siginificantly following the 2018 acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance. – Food Dive
