Walmart brings ecommerce fulfillment to the store
Walmart’s ecommerce logistics operation may never have a footprint that rivals Amazon’s sprawling network. But the world’s largest retailer has a big built-in asset: Thousands of stores in close proximity to a huge swath of the U.S. population. Walmart demonstrated how it can press that advantage this week, as the retailer opened a fulfillment center inside a store in its hometown of Bentonville. The online shopping experience for home improvement has undergone some major renovations at Lowe’s, and it drove results in the first quarter. Lowe’s is increasing pro sales through more personalization. For DIY projects, the retailer is offering ways to visualize and get estimates for projects. It is also building for a customer journey that includes both online price comparisons and in-store shopping. – PYMNTS

The Wall Street Journal is weighing in on the shift to more stringent returns policies across retail. Hot take from JC Penney Chief Customer Officer Katie Mullen: “Customers say free returns is the most important thing, but if it’s not there they still shop. Walmart Connect is providing self-serve advertisers with access to five firms that specialize in optimizing ad creative. These include: VidMob, WhyteSpyder, Kaizen Ad, It’sRapid.ai and The Mars Agency. With the latest expansion, the retail media platform’s ecosystem is now called the Walmart Connect Partner Network.
