Social media meets retail media
The maker of OXO, HydroFlask and Osprey saw consumption slow in its most recent quarter as a result of inflation, interest rates and reduced inventory buy as retailers seek to rebalance. In a restructuring, Helen of Troy will consolidate three divisions into two and create a North American marketing organization.
Here's where social media meets retail media. Pinterest and LiveRamp are partnering to provide access to clean rooms. These are spaces where intent-driven data from Pinterest and first-party data from retail media networks can be combined to discover new insights, while maintaining privacy. Albertsons Media Collective will be the first retailer to pilot the partnership.
A series of warnings issued late last week underscored the holiday fallout for retailers. Bed Bath & Beyond said it may soon file bankruptcy. Boxed is mulling selling the company. Macy’s is not facing such dire circumstances, but said holiday sales will come in low and warned of a consumer pullback in the year ahead.
Beauty brand Morphe joined the ranks of retailers pulling back late last week, as it announced plans to close US stores. But it will retain a focus on ecommerce and wholesale. With own-brand stores being expensive to operate and more direct-to-consumer brands embracing wholesale, is this a model we’ll see more of?
The Consumer Price Index will provide the latest update on inflation this week. Meanwhile, Albertsons will offer more insights on consumer behavior when it reports earnings. On the weekend, the National Retail Federation’s Big Show will gather the industry in New York.
