A skincare routine from a selfie
A partnership with Revieve is bringing digital beauty tools to JC Penney that provide shoppers with recommendations and a chance to try products before buying. The skincare advisor creates a routine using a selfie, while augmented reality gives a mobile phone’s camera the same functionality as a makeup counter mirror.
The company behind Sharpies and Yankee Candles said it is seeing fewer orders from stores heading into the fall, meaning it is expecting fewer sales in the third quarter. Newell Brands said the pullback is a result of both supply and demand: Shoppers are facing price pressure as a result of inflation, while supply chains are gaining back capacity in the year after retailers stocked up to weather delays.
In the year that is bringing traffic back to in-person stores, plenty of gifts are still going to be bought online during retail's high season. 58% of consumers are planning to increase ecommerce shopping during the 2022 holiday season compared to last year, a new study from Radial finds. It's starting now: 18% of consumers say they will start shopping in September.
Kroger is seeing demand for staple food and household items rise, as a 10% jump in sales of the grocer’s portfolio of private-label brands boosted second quarter earnings. During the quarter, it also saw record usage of digital coupons and fuel rewards at a time when gas and food prices were elevated.
The ecommerce events calendar is looking more like fall this week, with MakeUp in New York and Shopify Unite in London among the gatherings bringing professionals together. Plus, the federal government will provide a snapshot of where the consumer economy stands this month with the release of the latest data on inflation and retail sales.
