L'Oréal brings beauty tech to CES

As CES opens today, L'Oréal is creating space for beauty tech among the demos. The brand has two prototypes on display: HAPTA is a makeup applicator for people with limited hand and arm mobility, while Brow Magic combines augmented reality and printing to apply eyebrows at home. Expanding access and unlikely partnerships are at the heart of this innovation.

With returns season in full swing, the companies that power ecommerce are rolling out new ways for customers to more easily send items back. DoorDash launched a service to pick up packages and take them to carriers, while FedEx and Amazon are making box and label-free return options ever more the norm.

On the Move has updates on new leadership at Under Armour, Back to Nature, Sun-Maid and Good Karma Foods. Meanwhile, the head of the Victoria’s Secret brand is unexpectedly stepping down. Plus, CPG giants Nestlé and Colgate Palmolive made key promotions in the ecommerce and digital executive ranks.

Amazon is upping the number of workers affected by the layoffs it began in late 2022. CEO Andy Jassy said that the process “has been more difficult given the uncertain economy and that we’ve hired rapidly over the last several years.” It came on the same day that Salesforce announced plans to let go of 10% of its workforce.

Metaverse activations are continuing into 2023. H&M debuted Loooptopia on Roblox this week, providing space for players to experiment with new digital fashion for their avatars, and show them off on the runway. As H&M looks to engage with Gens Z and Alpha, the fast fashion retailer wants expression to cross digital and physical worlds.
