Klaviyo lands Shopify investment, partnership

 With the deal, marketing automation platform Klaviyo will be the “recommended email solution partner” of Shopify Plus, and receive early access to new features. Shopify President Harley Finkelstein calls the marketing automation company a “shining example” of the impact that its ecosystem can make, given its growth through the ecommerce software company’s app store.

Long before Prime, Instacart and Gopuff, 70-year-old Schwan’s delivered frozen food straight to subscriber doorsteps in standout yellow trucks. This year, the service is making big upgrades as it gets ready to roll out a new brand. These include backend tools from AWS that will power text notifications and personalized recommendations for customers, as well as more efficient delivery.

In this week’s hiring news, several of the largest consumer goods companies are naming top tech and digital leaders, while Coca-Cola and Williams Sonoma announced presidential succession plans. Plus, we've got updates on key promotions and additions at Nordstrom and Cotopaxi, and Shopify’s former VP of engineering joining a data privacy company.

Despite two consecutive quarters of GDP decline, a leading trade association for retailers sees “underlying strength” that will help the economy avoid a recession, or produce only a short-lived downturn if there is one. This is owed in large part to the strength of the job market. It’s worth mentioning, then, that on Tuesday the latest labor department data for June saw job openings fall to a nine-month low.

Last week’s announcement that Klondike will be discontinuing the Choco Taco brought back a wave of memories for many who lamented its exit from the treat scene. It’s the kind of strong sentiment that brands are seeking to tap with a flurry of collaborations and projects that evoke the recent past.
