Facebook retools advertising for a post-iOS 14 world

After acquiring the nut brand Planters and boosting ecommerce capabilities, Hormel Foods has a new operating structure. It brings retail and ecommerce together under one segment, while adding new centers for innovation focused on "food-forward" branding, and R&D. The 130-year-old company is "focused on creating the Hormel Foods of the future," said CEO Jim Snee.

When Meta leaders talk about new advertising products these days, the key theme is “doing more with less data.” They are harnessing AI advances toward this end. Next week, the company said Facebook will add automation tools for ecommerce and retail brands through Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns.

The summer months bring signs that inflation is starting to cool off. The Consumer Price Index rose 8.5% on an annual basis in July. That’s still at 40-year-highs, but down from June’s 9.1% increase, offering a welcome signal that inflation’s upward march was slowing. In ecommerce, Adobe’s Digital Price Index showed prices were down 1%, entering deflation for the first time in 25 months.

Despite some signs of easing inflation overall, food prices are still rising rapidly across the economy and ecommerce. IRI offered insights into how shoppers are changing behavior as a result, such as buying more in staple categories. Plus, they're trading down to store brands, while trading up for premium items they still love.

As Congressional leaders hammered out a deal to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, a $900 refundable tax credit for e-bikes was among the climate-focused proposals that didn't make the final cut. Electric bikes are a growing area of ecommerce, both as transportation for consumers and vehicles for delivery. But cost remains a barrier when it comes to wider adoption. Now, advocates will look to tax bills that are set to come up later this year as they seek to enshrine a rebate.
