Etsy 'squads' power advertising growth
Etsy tasked focused teams called “squads” with making key improvements to advertising in 2022. The goal was to make ads more relevant for buyers. The result was $100 million in incremental annualized revenue. CEO Josh Silverman broke down the marketplace’s approach.
Apparel marketplace Poshmark joined the ranks of ecommerce platforms making layoffs, despite a recent infusion as a result of a $1.2 billion acquisition deal with Korean internet giant Naver. Less than 2% of the 800-employee workforce will be let go “to better align with our priorities for the future, the current economic climate, and our return to being a private company," a spokesperson told TechCrunch. – TechCrunch
Instacart debuted a series of new features designed to provide digital tools for independent grocers. They include the ability to sell deli items and fresh food by weight via ecommerce, as well as fulfillment capabilities. Plus, Instacart’s product that helps grocers to set up and run retail media will now have display advertising.
Aldi will offer on-demand delivery via DoorDash from 2,000 stores across 38 states. Convenience and lower pricing are already built into Aldi’s value proposition. Now it will be able to add ecommerce, providing customers a new way to access its products. It’s already among the most-sought-after grocers among DoorDash customers. – Chain Store Age
Inflation continues to be stubborn, rising 0.6% for the month in January after a string of smaller increases, according to PCE data released on Friday. This came as consumer spending rose by a marked 1.8% for the month, driven by wage increases. It’s a sign that the hot job market is keeping demand strong.
