DTC drives Levi's amid consumer 'bifurcation'
Owned stores and ecommerce channels are proving to be growth engines for Levi Strauss, as the apparel company posted DTC records globally and in the U.S. for the first quarter. Loyalty membership was up 40%, indicating that Levi’s is finding success with repeat customers, even as it sees a pullback among value consumers.
Well-known retailers aren’t the only businesses standing up third-party marketplaces. Direct-to-consumer brands like Great Jones and Nanit are experimenting with sales of products from other brands on their websites. It shows that growth in the third-party logistics market is continuing, even as we lap the pandemic ecommerce boom that brought an onslaught of demand for services that could enable a fast pivot to digital. New this morning: The U.S. added 236,000 new jobs in March, while unemployment was essentially unchanged. Wages ticked up. It all points to a still-strong job market, even as growth is cooling.
